Bal Apte's life was his message,

In the late 'sixties, the chief examiner for Mumbai University's final year law exam had a young friend appearing for it. The student and the professor knew each other well. Yet, neither did the examiner ask him for the roll number, nor did the student give a hint about it. After the exams were over, both met and had a hearty laugh, saying everything without uttering a single word.

The examiner was Bal Apte, who would help build the largest student force in India that gained world fame, and the student was Madan Das, who went on to become a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh stalwart.

This is how the ideologue worked, incessantly building the character of youth by his own example and powering organisations dedicated to the nationalist school of thought.

Bal Apte, a brilliant Supreme Court lawyer lived the life of an ascetic devoting all his time and resources for the organisation. He was the person Dr Hedgewar; founder of the RSS, would need to create a formidable, highly motivated force of workers with unflinching faith in the ideology.
Ideology gives you strength to face challenges and mitigate the fear of hurdles, he would say. A tough, hard taskmaster, he had the heart of a mother. Known and often feared as an unyielding disciplinarian, he was guardian angel to thousands of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad workers who regarded him as a friend, philosopher and guide.
When the Left- and Congress-run bodies ruled the campuses and saffron was invisible from the areas dominated by fashionable elements mocking at the patriotic shades of activism, Yashwant Rao Kelkar envisioned a student force that would speak and work for India, which was later taken over by Bal Apte as its president. Soon the ABVP spread its wings all over India, challenging ideological opponents and having its members often murdered by Left extremists in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and elsewhere.
But the power of ideology engined its march ahead and it became an organisation that devoted itself not only to nurture academic excellence through conducting book-banks, students' vacation employment bureau, first class first felicitation functions, inter-collegiate and inter-university music competitions, painting competitions, literary competitions, student-writers' meets, sports meets, social participation camps, personality development camps, technical, medical, management, agri students workshops, technical exhibitions, Indo-foreign students' bureau, study circles and art circles, students' experience in inter-state living, my home is India, students for development etc, but also created hugely successful movements opposing Bangladeshi infiltration, Kashmir's secessionists, Maoist violence and de-Indianisation of the education system.

Bal Apte was responsible for creating an atmosphere of creativity and a strong allegiance to organisational ideology, putting up the ideals of Swami Vivekananda. One of the finest projects of the ABVP, My Home is India, invites students from the north-east to live with families in Mumbai and elsewhere for enriching them with an affectionate and caring India experience. At least two chief ministers of Arunachal Pradseh have grown up with this experience.
Later, in 1985, the ABVP launched the World Organisation of Students and Youth. It is the first international youth body with India as headquarters. The organisation works to bring together students and youth from various countries to promote peace and welfare of humanity.

Apte also served as additional advocate general for the state of Maharashtra from 1996 to 1998. As hon. professor, he taught law at the University of Bombay for 12 years. He wrote many celebrated books, but the one analysing the Supreme Court verdict on Hindutva became more famous.

His life was his message. For 38 years, the best part of his youth, he worked to build the ABVP as a formidable students force. His wife, Nirmala, works with Stree Shakti, a project for awakening on women's issues, and his only daughter, Dr Jahanavi, worked as full time worker for the ABVP. One of his closest associates, Prof Raj Kumar Bhatia, describes him as a sage-politician who would never compromise on principles .

He was my guide and conscience-keeper as president of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation. For the first time, through this foundation, several rare works of Dr Mookerjee were re-searched and published and a research project initiated to collect his parliamentary speeches. When we proposed to hold the martyrdom day of Dr Mookerjee in Srinagar, another first, almost everyone discouraged us. They said, 'Have a programme in the name of any other person, but not Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, that too under a government led by the grandson of Sheikh Abdullah'. And history tells us too, that never before was any programme dedicated to Dr Mookerjee held there. Bal Apte heard us and decided, 'We will have it there only'. And it was a roaring success.

Such was his strength of conviction that after his moving, inspiring speech, the entire audience, numbering approximately 400, and almost everyone a Kashmiri Muslim, stood up and sang the national anthem.
He could have easily got a third term in the Rajya Sabha, but he refused saying, 'I will use my experience in other fields as the RSS decides'. The day his Rajya Sabha term expired, he packed up and left for Mumbai, after vacating his house.
There were several instances when he was approached by 'pragmatic' persons wanting his Member of Parliament Local Area Development fund for 'mutually beneficial' schemes, assuring a certain percentage from the funds to him. Such people had to face his wrath in such a way that they would never dare to approach him again.

He was not happy with the present political scenario and often felt disgusted and, above all, compromises on core issues saddened him. And he often spoke strongly on such degradation, becoming a human mirror to all. His commitment to ideology was complete and he would never allow the slightest deviation from the basic approach towards various national and international issues.
There are people who are known for their wealth and others for their academic achievements. But Bal Apte was a man who would be known by the workers he created for the organisation. Seeing the commitment and the excellent track record of the organisational cadre alone, one can value the contributions of the publicity shy Balasaheb.

Shaheed Vir Kunwar Singh was one of the leading figures of the Indian Movement of 1857-59. A scion of Rajpur nobility he was born in Jagdishpur in the Shahabad (Now Sasaram) District of Bihar about 1777 and was destined to die a hero in the... Great Rising of 1857.When India rose against British authority in 1857, Babu Kunwar Singh was already past his prime being nearly eighty years old.

During the battle, his army had to cross the Ganges river. Douglas' army began to shoot at their boat. One of the bullets shattered Kunwar Singh's left wrist. Kunwar Singh felt that his hand had become useless and that there was the additional risk of infection due to the bullet-shot. He drew his sword and cut off his left hand near the elbow and offered it to the Ganges
Despite his age and failing health, when the call to fight came, the old lion plunged into the thick of it and for nearly a year battled against the British forces with grim determination and undaunted courage.

On 23 April, Kunwar Singh had a victory near Jagdispur over the force led by Captain Le Grand. On 26 April 1858 he died in his village.

अधिष्ठान

मुझे इस संदर्भ में दो उपाय सुझते है. एक मतलब मूलभूत, आधारभूत ऐसा जो तत्त्व या तत्त्वज्ञान है, उसका बार-बार स्मरण करा दिया जाना चाहिए. भगवद्गीता ने इसे ही अधिष्ठानकहा है. किसी भी कार्य की सिद्धी के लिए यह अधिष्ठाननितांत आवश्यक है. फिर आता है दूसरा घटक. गीता ने उसे कर्ताकहा है. कर्ता मतलब कार्यकर्ता. उसके बाद आते है साधन (करण) और कार्यक्रम (विविधाश्च चेष्टा:). हमारा अधिष्ठान है हिंदुत्व’. मतलब सांस्कृतिक राष्ट्रभाव. उसका यहॉं विस्तार करने का कारण नहीं. लेकिन हर किसी को हर क्षण प्रतीत होना चाहिए, कभी भी विस्मरण नहीं होना चाहिए कि, ‘हिंदुत्वमें कोई संकुचितता नहीं, सांप्रदायिकता नहीं. सर्वसमावेशकता है. इसलिए यह ध्यान में लेना चाहिए और हमेशा ध्यान में रखना चाहिए कि, ‘हिंदुत्वकी राह अपनाई तो भाषीक, जातीय, प्रांतीय संकुचित अस्मिता पीछे छूट जाएगी. फिर जनगणना में जाति का अंतर्भाव करने का विचार स्वीकृत नहीं होगा. संस्कृति या सांस्कृतिक व्यवस्था कहने पर एक विशिष्ट मूल्य-व्यवस्था (Value-system) होती है. उसकी मुहर कार्यकर्ताओं की मन-बुद्धि पर स्थायी रूप में अंकित होनी चाहिए. उस मुहर से अंकित हुआ कर्ता मतलब कार्यकर्ता. फिर वे मूल्यनिष्ठ साधन इकट्ठा करेंगे. उन मूल्यों की प्रतिष्ठापना के लिए कार्यक्रम की रचना भी करेंगे. मूल्यनिष्ठ जीना होगा तो उसके लिए जो किमत देनी होती है, वे वह देंगे. आवश्यक किमत देने की तैयारी और हिंमत होगी तो ही कोई मूल्य प्रस्तापित होता है. ऐसी मूल्यनिष्ठा से ओत-प्रोत कार्यकर्ता ही अपनी संस्था का गौरव बढ़ाते है.

संघ मतलब?

सादे-सादे व्यवहार में स्वयंसेवकत्व प्रकट होना चाहिए. चौक में लाल बत्ती लगी है, फिर स्वयंसेवक का वाहन रुकना ही चाहिए. टिकट निकालना है, उसने कतार में खड़ा होना ही चाहिए. घर में शादी है तो दहेज आदि से अलिप्त रहना ही चाहिए. कारखाना हो या कार्यालय, काम पूरी ताकद और विशुद्ध प्रामाणिकता के साथ उसने करना चाहिए. शिक्षक है, तो उसने सही तरीके से पूरी तैयारी कर सीखाना चाहिए. मेरा विद्यार्थी, मैं जो विषय पढ़ाता हूँ उसमें कभी अनुत्तीर्ण नहीं होगा, ऐसी उसकी वृत्ति होनी चाहिए. इसके लिए अधिक मेहनत आवश्यक होगी, तो वह भी उसने करनी चाहिए. वह दुकानदार होंगा, तो उसके दुकान में का सामान मिलावट रहित, सही वजन और योग्य किमत का ही होना चाहिए. कारखानेवाला होगा, तो उसके कारखाने में बनने वाला माल श्रेष्ठ दर्जे का ही होना चाहिए. इन सामान्य बातों से वह स्वयं की ही केवल प्रतिष्ठा और गौरव नहीं बढ़ाता, तो संघ की मतलब देश की भी प्रतिष्ठा और गौरव बढ़ाता है.

हमे किसी विचारधारा विशेष का विरोध नहीं है ! कोई भी विचारधरा जिसका अंतिम उद्देश्य विश्व कल्याण है हमे मान्य है ! बस विचारधारा का अनुकरण करते समय यह स्पष्ट रहना चाहिए की अन्य विचाधारा भी उसी कार्य हेतु कार्यरत है ! अतः व्यर्थ अपना समय दिखावे में न खर्च करते हुआ रचनामक कार्य करते रहन चाहिए ! याद रहे ,विचारधारा और मानवीय रिश्ते को कभी मिलाना नहीं चाहिए ,सामने वाला किसी भी विचारधारा का क्यों न हो ,वह हमारे कार्य का निम्मित है और हमे उसके विकास के लिए कार्य करना है ,इस विषय में कोई दुविधा नहीं रहना चाहिए ! यदि आपने ऐसा नहीं किया तो संघठन कभी सर्वभोम और सर्व व्यापक नहीं हो सकता , वह मंत्र एक समूह का संगठन बनकर रह जायेगा !

उतरप्रदेश के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री और समाजवादी पार्टी के मुखिया मुलायम सिंह यादव द्वारा बलात्कारियों के पक्ष में दिया गया यह बयान कि लड़कों से ग़लती हो जाती है, इसलिए बलात्कार करने के दंड के रूप में उन्हें फाँसी की सज़ा नहीं दी जानी चाहिए, यदि वे केंद्र की सत्ता में आए तो इस कानून को ही बदल देंगे, यह घोर निंदनीय है, अखिल भारतीय विद्यार्थी परिषद इस तरह के वक्तव्य और उसके पीछे की संकीर्ण महिला विरोधी मानसिकता का कड़ा विरोध करती है। एक और जहाँ देश में संपूर्ण समाज नारी के सम्मान की गरिमा बनाये रखने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध हो रहा है, ऐसे समय में इस प्रकार की विकृत मानसिकता के शिकार राजनीतिज्ञ नेता द्वारा सत्ता के प्रलोभन में ऐसी बयानबाजी करना दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण है। हमारे समाज में इस तरह के विचारों का कोई स्थान नहीं है तथा ये बयान भारतीय संस्कृति और लोकतंत्र की गरिमा का भी अपमान है। अभाविप इसका कड़ा विरोध करते हुए देश की जनता एवं संपूर्ण नारी समाज से ऐसी विकृत मानसिकता के नेताओं को सबक सिखाने का आह्वान करती है ताकि भारतीय लोकतंत्र की गरिमा पर छा रही ऐसी कालिमा दूर हो सके।

Samartha Ramdas Swami

The birth name of Samartha Ramdas Swami was Narayan Suryaji Thosar. He was born on 'Ramnavami' in the year 1530 (Marathi), (1608 AD) in Jamb village on the banks of Godavari river. He was a firm believer in God and stood by his principles. He realized that frequent floods, famines and attacks by fanatics had destroyed social life of people. Everyone was scared and depressed. Based on his experiences he wrote 2 books named "Asmani Sultani" and "Parachakraniroopan".
Ramdas Swami felt bad when he saw the society depending so much on fate and providence. In Marathi year 1566 (1644 AD) Samartha Ramdas Swami chose 'Chafal' for initiating his mission. He installed a statue of Lord Ram and started celebrating the festival of Ram 'Janmotsava' (Birth of Lord Ram). He established temples of Hanuman in towns and villages to convey importance of exercise to youth and taught them to get together and fight the enemy. He highlighted warrior's role in society.

Samartha Ramdas Swami established many study centres across the country. His teaching of patience and faith in the face of adversities helped people to deal with difficult conditions. Swami Ramdas established a chain of monasteries throughout the land where physical education was imparted with special emphasis on building bodily strength and character. The presiding deity in these Mathas was God Hanuman who symbolizes wisdom, strength, patience, fearlessness, vigour, sincerity, ready wit and alertness of mind, and Ram, the Maryada Purshottam, is embodiment of all imaginable virtues dear to a Hindu heart. In Swami Ramdas, Shivaji found a sadguru and felt great spiritual solace in his company.

Swami Ramdas' exposition of Rajdharma and Kshatradharma in his upadesa to Shivaji is well reflected in latter's State policies and in his war against Aurangzeb.

The destruction of Ravana, the enemy of Gods, and establishment of Ramrajya and thus saving the dharma from the morass of wickedness He understood the importance of the role of women in a harmonious society. He encouraged women to participate in religious work and gave them positions of authority. He had 18 staunch women disciples.

जब तक नागरिको के जीवन में राष्ट्रहित का भाव नहीं आएगा तब तक राष्ट्र की सुख समृद्धि संभव नहीं | सम्पूर्ण समाज, सम्पूर्ण राष्ट्र और उसका कण कण मेरा है, उसका दुःख दैन्य मेरे लिए बड़ी लज्जा की बात है, ऐसी भावना से ओतप्रोत वैचारिक मानसिक क्रांति की आज आवश्यकता है | ऐसा वैचारिक परिवर्तन लाने के लिए समाज के प्रत्येक घटक में अपनी भूमि, अपना समाज, अपनी परंपरा और अपने राष्ट्र के प्रति उत्कट प्रेम जागृत करना पड़ेगा | एक देश और एक समाज का पूर्ण एकात्मक भाव प्रत्येक व्यक्ति के ह्रदय में उत्पन्न करना होगा | भावना और विचारो में ऐसी सर्वागीण क्रांति लाने के लिए ही अपना संघ कार्यरत है |

यांना लाज कशी वाटत नाही?

भारत देश म्हणजे धर्मशाळा झाला आहे असे म्हटले जाते. ते सत्य असल्याचे वारंवार प्रत्ययास येत असते. देशात प्रचंड संख्येने बांगलादेशी नागरिक घुसले आहेत. हे वास्तव आता शासनाने स्विकारले आहे. परंतु एकगठ्ठा मतांच्या लालसेपोटी सत्ताधारी या बांगलादेशी नागरिकांच्या अंगाला हात लावू इच्छित नाही. केवळ लांबून इशारे द्यायचे आणि प्रत्यक्षात काहीही करायचे नाही हा मुर्खपणा खुलेआम सुरु असतो. आणि बहुसंख्य जनता देखिल त्याकडे दुर्लक्ष करण्यातच धन्यता मानते. आज या बांगलादेशी मतांची ताकद दिवसेंदिवस वाढत चालली आहे. त्याकडे दुर्लक्ष केल्यास भविष्यात देशाची आणखी एक फाळणी झाली तर नवल वाटायचे कारण नाही.

आता तर केंद्रिय गृहमंत्रालयातील विदेशी विभागातील अवर सचिव विकास श्रीवास्तव यांनी तर कमालच केली आहे. त्यांनी हायकोर्टात चक्क शपथपत्र दाखल केले आहे. त्यात म्हटले आहे की, बांगलादेशी नागरिकांची देशात मोठ्या प्रमाणात घुसखोर होत आहे. आर्थिक, राजकीय व इतर कारणांनी स्थलांतरित झालेल्या बांगलादेशींना हुडकून काढणे अत्यंत कठीण आहे. त्याचप्रमाणे देशात किती बांगलादेशी अवैधरित्या वास्तव्य करीत आहेत याची नेमकी माहिती देता येणार नाही.

आता याला काय म्हणावे? मायबाप शासनच जर उघडपणे बांगलादेशी नागरिकांची बाजू घेणार असेल तर त्या सरकारला काय अर्थ आहे? आपल्या घरात रस्त्यावरील कोणीही राहण्यास आला तर ते आपण सहन करतो का? नाही ना! मग देशात लाखो बांगलादेशी निर्धास्तपणे वास्तव्य करीत आहेत आणि शासन म्हणते त्यांना हुडकून काढणे आम्हाला शक्य नाही. मग तुम्हाला काय शक्य आहे ते तरी सांगा असाच सामान्यांचा सवाल आहे. आज देशातील 50 हून अधिक मतदारसंघ असे आहेत की जेथे अल्पसंख्यक मतांच्या जोरावर जनसेवक निवडून येतात. त्यामध्ये बांगलादेशी नसतील असे आपण म्हणू खात्रीने सांगू शकतो का? मतांच्या लाचारीसाठीच सरकार बांगलादेशी घुसखोरांना लाथ मारुन बाहेर काढण्यास कचरत आहे. जर त्यांना आपण हाकलले तर आपल्याला मुस्लिमांची मते पडतील का? हाच प्रश्‍न त्यांच्यासमोर आहे. परंतु येथील राष्ट्रवादी मुस्लिमांचा कधीच बांगलादेशी घुसखोरांना पाठिंबा नव्हता आणि नसेल.

आता या बांगलादेशी घुसखोरांना सरकारने गालीचे अंथरले आहेतच. त्याचाच परिपाक म्हणजे देशात दहशवादी कारवाया वाढत चालल्या आहेत. मागील काही दिवसात सरकारने इंडियन मुजाहिदीन या आंतकवादी संघटनेच्या खतरनाक अतिरेक्यांना अटक केली आहे. त्यांना स्थानिकांचे सहकार्य असल्याशिवाय हे शक्य आहे का? घुसखोरांना आश्रय दिल्यावर दुसरे काय होणार? घुसखोरांना हुडकून काढणे अशक्य असल्याचे सांगणार्‍या सरकारला काहीही वाटत नसले तरी सरकारच्या विचारसरणीची सामान्यांना आज लाज वाटत आहे.
